Our menus and meals are developed specifically to meet the nutritional needs of seniors and are prepared under the direction of Huggins Hospital's Food and Nutrition Service Department.
All of our meals are low-sodium and utilize the USDA MyPlate program to ensure the unique needs of older adults are met. Older adults, even those without pre-existing medical conditions, have specific dietary needs, including:
Ensuring meals and diets help to reduce risk of developing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease;
Providing food choices with little to no added sugar, saturated fats, and sodium;
Offering sufficient protein to maintain muscle mass;
Delivering nutrient focused foods, including: potassium, calcium, vitamin D, dietary fiber, and vitamin B12.
Do you have special dietary needs due to food allergies or existing medical conditions? Although we are not able to modify any of our menu items or accommodate special requests, we are happy to work with you and your family to make the best choices for your health. Please reach out to our team to discuss your needs.
