Wolfeboro Area Meals on Wheels

I have been receiving meals from WAMOW for perhaps 5 years now and couldn’t be happier with the variety and quality of the food. The Program Director is unfailingly open to all manner of feedback, and seeing such feedback applied is gratifying. As for the drivers, they are always punctual and pleasant. I truly appreciate that none of them rushes away after delivering my meal; rather, they hang around for a bit of lively conversation or quiet support. I’m delighted to now call some of my drivers friends whom I see outside of the weekly meal delivery. My hat’s off to the team at WAMOW. Receiving WAMOW meals several nights weekly means I can relax knowing I don’t have to prep, cook, and serve myself a hot meal but will still eat right. Spending some time talking with my drivers on delivery days is a marvelous bonus. If I have to be out on the days a meal is delivered, I’m disappointed because I’ve missed an opportunity to pass some time with friends. (Brookfield Participant)

Your drivers are amazing! Organization of entire process amazing. Being essentially homebound, the light banter with the drivers is always a bonus. Nice to know there are informal check-ins. My wife and I have been delivering meals to neighbors for over a year. The Program Director and her team do an excellent job of preparing the meals and communicating with us. In a short time, we’ve become part of the lives of the neighbors that receive meals. They look forward to our deliveries and short visits. We look forward to helping neighbors, even if it is just a short visit once a week. We get a great feeling from volunteering for this valuable program.

Meals on Wheels is more than just delivering meals. It is about building relationships with those you may not know and a generation that is "The Greatest Generation". It provides an opportunity to do random acts of kindness showing love and respect. We enjoy it so much that we volunteer for our regular route one day a week and often volunteer as a substitute a second day.

I wish to share our experience with meals on wheels. As a couple we each have significant disabilities that leave us both unable to drive or to easily prepare full meals. We are able to stay in our home indefinitely with a key support being meals on wheels. The local hospital prepares the meals with us choosing two entree choices over a several month menu. The meals are then provided warm by a team of wonderful volunteers, Monday through Friday. I can’t say enough good about the administrators and the volunteers. If I’ve needed to report one of us being away for a few days, even if with short notice, the meals have not been delivered. The volunteers are both men and women who always arrive with a smile and short conversation and often a bit of humor. There is no question in my mind that they are also keenly aware of our status. I suspect if they realized we needed help they would alert the proper emergency persons. When one is suddenly home bound you realize that most of your human contacts are when you travel outside of the home. I feel so very fortunate that 5 days a week there are men and women who travel to see us. Oh, and there is a daily snack too! (Wolfeboro Participant)
